Indian Missions
One of Jesus' final messages to His followers can be found in Acts 1:8 "...you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth.”
As followers of Christ we have a responsibility to be His witnesses at home, in our surrounding area, and to the ends of the earth. It is a command and privilege given by Jesus Christ to share the good news of the Gospel. One opportunity for us to share is in our "Samaria" which includes Indian Reservations in South Dakota.
Bob and Phyllis Mills have been reaching out to Native Americans with many in Community Bible supporting their efforts. Indian Missions is 2 years old now. In the beginning Bob wanted to continue to supply Bibles and Conquering Indian books to Rosebud. Gradually contacts have been made with Native Americans in White River. A lot of food and clothing have been supplied to needy families and then other states found out what was going on and joined the effort.
At the present time the primary concern is supplying Bibles and Conquering Indian books, Christian CDs, brochures, etc. At this time hundreds of these items have been supplied to Rosebud, Mission, Pine Ridge, White River, Lower Brule, Eagle Butte and Ft Thompson, and also the Hughes County Jail and the SD Women's Prison.
Bob has been invited to speak by the ministers and other Christian groups. While it has taken some time to gain the trust of these groups, it has been worth it. Bob has now been invited to hold Bible studies at the Lower Brule Correction Center and, for the past 5 years, Bible Studies have also been held at the Hughes County Jail.
An update from Bob (March 2010) March has been very busy for me. Recently I have had complications with my artificial leg. It appears that I will have to have more surgery in order to be fitted with a new prosthesis. This will take a lot of time -- surgery, rehab, etc., before I will be walking again.
So, I have been busy delivering Bibles and Conquering Indian books to the correction centers in Pierre and Lower Brule. I have also delivered many Bibles to those who will deliver them on the reservations.
Recently, a rancher donated two head of beef. He just wanted the processing paid. Phyllis and I delivered a lot of this beef on March 25, 2010. We delivered a large portion of it to a ministry in Wanblee called Eagle Nest Life Center. The paster is Gus Craven and his wife is Terri. They have a soup kitchen at the church and feed an average of 35 people a day. There is also an alcohol anonymous meeting held there. They are very involved with the local youth several times a week. Pastor Gus Craven and I are both involved with the Sportsmen Against Hunger program. He delivered pheasants to Pine Ridge and I deliver them to Rosebud. We also took some of the beef to a minister in White River -- both were thankful for our help.
Thank you church for all your help with the Indian Missions projects. We could not do it with your support.
