The best-selling book last year is not on any best-seller book lists. This book is the best-selling book every year, and the best-selling book of all time according to Guinness World Records. You guessed it—the Bible. Translated into over two thousand languages, the average American household contains more than four Bibles. It is the book of books, which is what the name “Bible” means.

Its impact is unprecedented. Its truths have changed the world, as well as our nation and culture. We would not have our constitution without it. The abolition of slavery would not have happened without the teachings of the Bible. God’s Word inspired the civil rights movement. The most amazing impact is the transformation of countless lives who have come to know Jesus through the pages of Scripture. Psalm 119:105 says, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” God’s Word is our life instruction manual; it shines on our feet as we walk through life and it shows us the way to live.

Owning a Bible is different from believing what it says. People have Bibles, but few make a habit of reading it. Only 26 percent of Americans say they read it regularly. If God wrote a book, wouldn’t you want to see what He has to say? Wouldn’t you want to do what He says? Do you struggle with Bible study? Join others in Bible studies. Take an Institute class this fall. If picking up your Bible would cause a dust storm, then it is time to make your Bible more than a decoration. The Bible of a follower of Christ appears worn and tattered, not pristine. It is read often, not simply gathering dust. How dusty is your Bible?
