In Ray Ortlund’s book The Death of Porn: Men of Integrity Building a World of Nobility, he writes: “This book is not about you just getting polished up a bit here and there, making yourself more socially presentable. It’s about your heart finally daring to believe in your true royalty.” Ortlund also states that we have a problem: we are evil. We are royal and we are evil, but Jesus renews our royalty. Jesus considers you worth fighting for, so you don’t have to clean yourself up first.
Shame causes us to isolate. It is easy to think that no one else struggles with lust, but the Bible says, “No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man” (1 Cor 10:13). Statistics show a majority of Christian men struggle with lust. Confessing is scary because we think we will hurt those closest to us by telling them the truth. However, the truth is you are already hurting your loved ones! It may not be pretty facing the consequences, but getting caught or going even further down the path of lust will be even uglier. I used to think, “What would the people at church think if they knew?” After I shared my testimony in church, I received much grace and encouragement from the church family.
Brother, do you have a secret thought life? Would you be ashamed to have your current search history made public? Christ is calling you to find out who you are, and we’re here to help. Starting 9/16/24, we will study Ortund’s book, and we would love to have you join us. Contact me if interested: 6052811263. As Scripture says, “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold the new has come” (2 Cor. 5:17).
