In our church by-laws it states, “We believe that salvation is a gift from God and is received by man through repentance and personal faith in Jesus Christ and His sacrifice for sin.”
Definition of Repentance:
Repentance is a change of heart and mind, a turning from sin. It is granted by God, involves seeing our sin as God sees it, and leads to forgiveness. Repentance from sin and faith in Christ are both necessary to be saved.
God provides the information we need in His Word as it speaks clearly on the need to repent.
We recognize the Holy Spirit convicts of sin, righteousness, and judgment to come, opening the eyes of the sinner to their condition and need for a Savior (John 16:8)
Jesus Christ the Savior says to “repent and believe the Gospel” and that unless we repent, we will perish. (Mark 1:15, Luke 13:1-5)
God grants repentance leading to life. (Acts 5:31, Acts 11:18, 2 Timothy 2:24-25)
Results:
Repentance and faith granted by God leads to the fruit of the Spirit in the life of a believer and good works which God has prepared for us to do following salvation. (Acts 26:20, Galatians 5:22-23, Ephesians 2:10).
