The Most Amazing Prophecy Ever!

Out of all the prophecies in the Bible, one is the most amazing, mind-blowing, and challenging of all – the Seventy Weeks (not weeks but literally sevens) of Daniel 9:20-27. It begins with Daniel praying in exile, for the predicted 70 years is almost over (Jeremiah 25:8-11), and he is confessing Israel’s sins and pleading for restoration. God then sends the angel Gabriel to deliver the vision of Israel’s future.

Israel would go back to the land after seventy years, but their restoration was far from over. Gabriel’s vision revealed that it will be seventy TIMES seven years to completely restore Israel. God gave Daniel a timetable for the future! Seventy times seven is 490 years. 483 years have already happened, leaving 7 years that are yet future. Gabriel gave events along the way so we would know just how accurate God’s prophecy really is.

The timetable started when Nehemiah got permission to go and rebuild Jerusalem in 445 BC (Nehemiah 2). After seven sevens, or 49 years, Jerusalem was rebuilt exactly as predicted! Then, in another sixty-two sevens or 434 years, the anointed one will be cut off and have nothing. This is none other than the Messiah, Jesus and His rejection and death. Recalculating for the different calendars from then to now, this prophecy pinpoints Jesus’ rejection and death on the cross with stunning accuracy, placing the end of the 483 years at AD 33!

The vision also predicted a gap between the 483 and the last 7 years. It predicted the destruction of Jerusalem that we know happened in AD 70, and many wars and difficulties for Israel. Then, sometime yet future, another individual will make a covenant with Israel for a seven-year period. This is the antichrist, and this period is the tribulation. At the middle of the last seven-year period the temple will be desecrated just as Jesus predicts in Matthew 24:15. The gap between the 483 years and the last 7 is the church age of which we are in. Next is the Rapture, the Tribulation, and the second coming! Since Biblical prophecy is so accurate in the past, we know it will be in the future. What a faith builder for sure! Now you know why I love Biblical Prophecy and why this is the most amazing prophecy of in all the Bible!
