Beholding His Glory in All He Has Made

Minus the flies and mosquitoes, I’m definitely a heat-of-the-summer kind of guy. My lovely wife, however, prefers the fall—with its changing colors and cooler weather. I’ll admit, it’s a beautiful time of year, and the absence of skeeters is a huge plus! But my mind inevitably drifts toward what’s coming next: freezing temperatures, blizzards, and a higher electric bill right around the corner. Yet, this is something I shouldn’t dread or complain about. Instead, I should look upon God’s creation with awe and marvel at Him.

In Scripture, God tells us to look at His creation and learn from it—to know Him better through what He has made (Romans 1:20; Psalm 19:1; Job 12:7–10). Through creation, we not only see His eternal power and divine nature but also His creativity and beauty. Think about this: every moment of every day, God is creating something new—a human being, an animal, a plant. He is constantly painting the heavens for us to behold, whether day or night, sunrise or sunset. And if we look even closer, we can see glimpses of the Gospel woven into His creation.

In the changing seasons, we witness life, death, and renewal. In the transformation of a caterpillar to a butterfly, we see a sluggish little creature become something entirely new and beautiful. And perhaps I’m stretching the analogy, but even in the resurrection, we see reflections of this truth. Consider that there is a kind of frog that completely freezes during winter—its heart stops beating for months, and yet when warmer temperatures return, it thaws and comes back to life.

So, church family, not only can we worship God by studying His Word and praising Him together, but we can also worship Him by studying His creation. He entrusted it to us to steward and enjoy. Praise the Lord for the creation the Father made through the Son, by the Spirit.
