What is Awana?

AWANA stands for "Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed", from 2 Timothy 2:15.  It is a nondenominational youth ministry whose goal is to reach boys and girls with the Gospel of Jesus Christ and train them to serve Him in accordance with 2 Timothy 2:15.  The program can be found in 13,000 churches in 110 countries around the world.

AWANA consists of a fun mixture of scripture memorization, council time/singing, and the ever popular game time.  If your desire is to ground your child in a knowledge of the scriptures, check out AWANA.  For a complete description of the AWANA program, please visit the official AWANA website

Who Can Attend?

Children throughout the community are welcome to attend.

When is it held?

AWANA is every Wednesday evening from 6:20 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  starting in September and going to the first week of May.  A theme night calendar and be found here soon.

How do I sign up my child?

Initial sign up for AWANA commences in late August or early September (check the events tab).  But you can sign up your child anytime and they can jump in at any point during the school year.

How can I help?

We encourage parents to get involved in helping at AWANA!  There are many opportunities available to match up to the gift you have, including listeners, secretaries, game leaders and club leaders.  Please prayerfully consider how you can help and then contact us for more information.  Training is provided.

How much does it cost?

We only ask that you pay for the book ($10) which is different each year; and the vest/shirt: Cubbies vest $10; Sparks vest $10; Truth and Training polo shirt $16, if you are able.

Who do I contact with questions?

For basic questions about AWANA, contact the CBC office; for questions about how the program works, or how you can help, contact Steve Valland (605) 280-2416.

What are theme nights?

We like to have some fun and so each Wednesday night has a theme.  In the past we have had: duct tape night where your child brings their custom made duct tape attire or accessory; face paint night, where kids come with their faces painted; and every year we have Grand Prix night, where your child brings their grand prix car and races against others; and of course, awards night where we recognize achievements of the children.  Click here for the current year theme night schedule.

What are the different clubs?

Cubbies

Cubbies® celebrates the spiritual potential of preschoolers by helping them develop respect for God, His Son and His Word.

Preschoolers love Cubbies! Whether it’s the fun puppets, the exciting games or all their friends, they simply can hardly wait for their next Cubbies meeting. At Story Time each week, preschoolers learn so much about God! Lessons focus on the greatness of God's love, His Word, and His Son, Jesus Christ, the promised Savior. Non-competitive games build excitement and reinforce Story Time lesson themes.

(Preschoolers should be age 4 and potty-trained by the starting date of AWANA.  If either of these are not met, the child may still attend if a parent/guardian remains with the child.)

SparksLogo.png

Sparks

Sparks® ignites the curiosity of early elementary-age kids to learn about the people and events of the Bible, building a foundation of wisdom for knowing Christ.  For many children, Sparks is the highlight of the week! They love their red vests, the exciting games and spending time with leaders and friends.

Sparks is divided into three years (K, 1st and 2nd grades), each with a unique rank: HangGlider®, WingRunner® and SkyStormer™. Each year, kids in Sparks:

• Explore the biographies of people of the Bible
• Memorize Bible verses
• Complete handbook activities

Truth in Training

The T&T (Truth & Training) curriculum teaches kids the truth of God's Word, trains them to follow Him and practice His grace. In this 4 year curriculum series (3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th grades), kids will explore the fundamental doctrines of Christianity including:

• The character and nature of God
• The structure and sequence of the Bible
• The redemption narrative
• Key practices for followers of Jesus

By encouraging kids to engage in highly biblical and highly relational discipleship, T&T helps students to grow and develop as lifelong followers of Jesus Christ.

Trek-Logo-640-480.jpg

Trek

Trek challenges students to wrestle with the three most important questions they’re asking in middle school (7th & 8th grades):

• Who am I?
• Why am I here?
• Who’s with me?

By allowing students to dive deep into the Scriptures and answer these questions for themselves, we allow them to own their faith and discover what they actually believe.

Journey

Journey® establishes high school students as lifelong disciples through a deep study of God's Word, mobilizing them to live with godly perspective and evident faith. Featuring a variety of hosts including Josh Griffin and Sean McDowell, Journey offers four complete years' worth of material that supports your 9th-12th grade high school ministry.
